Martha Mitchell effect
When a medical professional denies a person's accurate perception of reality, labeling them as delusional or mentally unhealthy, leading to a misdiagnosis.
It is named after Martha Mitchell, wife of Richard Nixon's attorney general, who was treated as delusional when she would claim that the White House was doing illegal acts. Most of her claims were eventually substantiated after the Watergate scandal was exposed.
