precariat
An economic class of people living in constant financial precarity, existing without stability, with a total lack of job security. This affects their personal wellbeing in several ways. Basically a permanent state of experiencing micro-Trauma, which affects their ability to function, make good decisions or ever get ahead.
Members of this class are often unemployed or only partially employed, and constantly jumping through hoops for access to jobs, like constantly proving their ongoing job hunting to the unemployment board. They commonly find temporary, unpredictable income through the gig-work economy.
The existence of the precariat was in large part by design by neoliberal powers in the economy of Post-Fordism.
Internships, especially unpaid ones, are a part of this class, which means that the type of career paths of people in the precariat can be anything from food delivery to doctors or lawyers.
